I have been fascinated by how people think, feel, and behave since I was nine years old. I also take great pleasure from helping people. These passions pulled me towards the study of psychology; a chapter of my career that culminated in helping people around the world perform better, and be happier and healthier, by publishing papers in academic journals. Looking back, I realise that I have been striving to achieve higher levels of performance my entire life. It started in earnest while playing in the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. It developed while winning National Championships as an American football player and coach, leading teams in a social integration charity, and creating high-performing teams and a collaborative culture in one of the United Kingdom’s most challenging infrastructure projects. These experiences helped me clarify my purpose – to help people be high-performing and happy. A worthwhile purpose I hope you’ll agree. However, as the climate crisis intensified and inaction continued, I realised that I could not sit back and ignore the most important challenge of our time. It is people who will lead us through this crisis, and I want to try and do everything I can to help. I am now fortunate to help everyone by working with Oxygen Conservation, a genuinely wonderful company that is Scaling Conservation, delivering positive environmental and social impact, and generating profit as a result, not as the purpose, of what we do. Yes, I know I’m biased but the culture really is the embodiment of all of the amazing ideas you read about in books, watch on YouTube, and hear about in podcasts. Oxygen Conservation has built something truly special and I’m excited, privileged, and humbled to help the team build their amazing culture and company. If you’d like to discuss an opportunity to work with Oxygen Conservation or chat about sustainability, high-performance, or happiness please do contact me.

High Performing Teams More and more, we need to work within and across teams to achieve our goals. However, that’s challenging and complex. Instead of teams, we’re often part of groups of individuals lacking trust, commitment and alignment of goals and behaviour. I help build high performing teams by making the complex simple. Leadership Coaching We do not put the necessary support system around leaders. High level athletes have a litany of specialist support services (psychologist, physiotherapist, personal trainer, nutritionist, etc.). I help leaders unlock untapped potential by offering one of these missing support services. I accelerate personal and professional development by addressing cognitions, emotions and behaviours. For example, making difficult decisions, increasing emotional intelligence, setting and achieving realistic goals, and conducting failure analysis. All is done in a way that reduces negative emotions and motivates individuals to achieve more in the future. Leading Improvement Greatest client value is realised when we focus on transformation over intervention. We want to help you embed improvement skills and practices leaving a legacy of continuous improvement, rather than quick wins that create a dependency on our services. While working towards transformation, we help you break down barriers between departments through the development of collaborative working practices, including the Collaborative Production System. We also work to minimise total cost for the delivering quality outcomes demanded by your customers. Show less -

This resulted in reduced waste, improved SOP and buy-in and will lead to better performance.Identified & mapped 199 processes held in 8 teams across 4 organisations then created a one-page Ribbon Diagram that highlighted and reduced duplication and number of processes and visualised information flow through the system. This will inform future organisational design work for HR across Defra. Show less

Using expert knowledge in motivation and performance (PhD, psychology) I developed performance metrics that built upon and enhanced the organisation’s culture. Using this methodology my teams achieved their highest ever recorded performance. I loved working at The Challenge because every day I worked towards improving equality and diversity and made a real difference to the lives of individuals and communities. Led performance management in the West Midlands. Developed reports and dashboards for each stage of the annual cycle to clarify progress towards our KPIs and future business activities. This work supported regional benchmarking and comparative performance analysis. Created a performance reporting tool that took information from thousands of customers, filtered and displayed information to team members in a clear and easy to interpret format that allowed them to maximise effectiveness and efficiency. These tools ensured effective, efficient and ethical information analysis, while also maximising performance.I liaised with external customers, particularly those from Birmingham City Council, to engage hard to reach young people. During a presentation to senior Council employees, I clearly explained National Citizen Service, emphasised the benefits, addressed customer concerns, created opportunities for collaboration and suggested future actions. Following this meeting I built strong relationships by establishing a method of working that suited all parties, overcame challenges faced by customers, communicated accurately and transparently and actioned tasks quickly. These relationships resulted in better engagement with schools and more young people taking part in the programme, both of which are key performance indicators at The Challenge. Show less -
