I am a journalist and the co-founder and president of The Intercept Brasil, a non-profit investigative newsroom powered by over 21,000 donors annually. TIB is best known for publishing Vaza Jato, a series of bombastic revelations that exposed egregious misconduct by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Judiciary. Our reporting had significant political and legal ramifications and, according to political commentator Reinaldo Azevedo, “is the most important journalistic event in Brazil in many years, perhaps decades.” In six years of operation, our team has published dozens of other high-impact investigations that have sparked congressional inquiries, investigations by police and prosecutors, street protests, public debates, judicial rulings, new legislation, corporate reforms, and more. In that time, The Intercept Brasil has attracted over 4 million followers across social media platforms and dozens of journalistic honors, making it Brazil's most influential independent newsroom. In late 2022, we became a fully independent organization and are in the middle of a strategic revision of our workflows and systems to better serve our audience and mission and allow continued, sustainable growth.Since 2016, I have overseen TIB's initial launch and incorporation, editorial strategy, the creation of its membership program (the largest of its kind in Latin America), business operations, marketing, partnerships, legal, hiring, and more. Outside of my leadership role, I have also written, reported, and edited original investigations for The Intercept in English and Portuguese since 2014, focusing primarily on the Snowden archive, Vaza Jato, politics, international affairs, and Brazil. I am also proud to serve as a board member of Fogo Cruzado Institute, an innovative non-profit data journalism project that tracks armed violence in 49 Brazilian cities, produces original reporting, and partners with other organizations to produce better public policy.Previously, I worked as a freelance journalist, news producer at National Public Radio and multimedia producer in Washington, D.C.
