• Collaborated amongst the Principal Engineers group, external vendors and wider company engineering to architect technical solutions for the objectives in the company’s roadmap. An example of this was with our major integrations project where we strategically partnered to be able to integrate HRIS systems at scale. The solution involved use of cloud infrastructure to architect and build fault tolerant and scalable systems.• Driving organisational-level projects and initiatives surrounding system-wide areas such as security, governance and compliance. A recent project was the implementation of Synopsys Software Composition Analysis (SCA) and Static Application Security Testing (SAST) to determine the security posture of the organisation. This security project has been extended to our CICD platforms to incorporate a DevSecOps practice.• Delivering core system designs in support of our shift to serverless from virtual machine and container workloads. This involved design patterns of how we transition legacy systems to serverless as well as integrating our existing Kubernetes clusters with our serverless platform to provide a hybrid experience while we transition.

• Defining patterns and standards for the organisation to deliver consistency and excellency in our processes and technology. This involved the delivery of our organisational-level infrastructure as code project (core-infrastructure powered with Pulumi). The core-infrastructure solution manages our cloud infrastructure across multiple cloud providers and environments with the design allowing it to scale globally.• Played a key strategic role in our organisational platform project inclusive of multiple cloud migrations and our shift to serverless infrastructure for our flagship product. This involved research and strategic planning to ensure we engineered the product with quality and best practice to ensure it will scale and perform.• Key contributor in driving DevOps practices within the organisation to enable our engineering teams. This involved mentoring and leading our engineering teams in DevOps practices and tooling (cloud infrastructure, CICD, architecture patterns) to enable them to take ownership of their product and its underlying systems. This eventuated in the teams being more productive by owning their systems and tooling allowing the DevOps Engineering team to focus on bigger picture tech initiatives.

• Developing and managing critical microservice workloads on managed Kubernetes clusters. This involved product migrations between Kubernetes clusters, cloud cost optimisation, and improvement of overall operations and resiliency. Cluster infrastructure was monitored using a combination of StackDriver and New Relic.• Design and implementation of Hutly’s infrastructure and security roadmap. This involved having a strong understanding of the overall architecture and building upon the roadmaps that align with Hutly’s strategic direction. The roadmaps have steered the company in preparation for ISO27001 certification and overall infrastructure optimisation.• Major refactoring of the existing Infrastructure as Code solutions built using Terraform. This involved the simplification of the overall design through the decoupling of resources and modules. Some of the work that has been implemented involved DNS migrations, IAM security improvements and critical workload migrations.• Improvement and support of Hutly’s critical Google Cloud Platform services. The support and maintenance of these services were managed effectively through strict incident management processes to allow Hutly to comply with our SLA’s with our partners. The GCP services were inclusive of GKE, CloudSQL, Cloud Functions, Compute Engine, CloudDNS, Cloud Storage, Big Query and Pub-Sub.

• Driving the cloud migration for Loan Market services and products. This involved transitioning legacy systems into autonomous delivery of Infrastructure as Code through CICD, AWS CloudFormation and Serverless technology.• Supporting critical applications and services for our national and international Ray White offices. IT Operations involves heavy use of monitoring applications including Splunk, AWS CloudTrail and Nagios.• Delivering the simplification and automation of existing design within our internal architecture. This has been done through redesign and use of toolsets such as HashiCorp Packer/Terraform, AWS CloudFormation and Kubernetes to replace legacy systems, monoliths and processes.• Supporting multi-cluster containerised systems running across kubernetes within AWS Elastic Kubernetes Services, KOPS and Kubespray. This involved troubleshooting container runtime issues as well as general maintenance involving patching and application deployments.

• Supporting critical systems in a dynamic fast paced environment. This involved deep analysis on core services of the Australian Taxation Office to support the Business and Tax Agent Online Portals. Support for these critical services required effective collaboration between our technical team and business counterparts as well as a strong mindset of the architecture within the ATO.• Key contributor of providing in depth coverage of our solutions design through workshops and knowledge transfer sessions. This involved understanding design and training other colleagues of our systems integration and functionality to effectively recover systems during critical incidents.• Driving DevOps within the organisation to adopt concepts, process and technology where it fits. This involved designing solutions to mitigate outages of our web applications. Technologies used included AWS S3 configured as a web endpoint, AWS CloudFront, Akamai CDN and Python to implement a web scraping tool to still serve dynamic content when there was an outage in a failover scenario.

• Achieved a successful delivery of the preparedness and resilience for tax time 2017. This involved leading a small team through the design and development of a critical tax time infrastructure project. The solutions improved the overall architecture through the use of Infrastructure as Code and CDN technologies.• Migrated the Australian Taxation Office’s Content Management Software to cloud service infrastructure. This involved designing proof of concepts using Azure and AWS, and paving the roadmap to migrate further internal services towards an Infrastructure as Code model. This solution was implemented through AWS EC2, VMware vRealize, PowerShell and CICD pipelines.

- Supporting critical systems in a dynamic fast paced environment that supported the backend systems of the ATOGOV project. The work involved allowed me to step into a Technical Lead role in delivering the configuration, packaging and deployment components of the project.- Developed and supported initial build and release pipelines for the Australian Taxation Office website. This involved collaboration between Technical Team Leads to coordinate the design of a packaging and deployment framework to replace legacy build and release methods. As a success to the project the inhouse packaging and deployment framework was introduced to other services within the organisation.

• Working closely with customers to provide effective and professional support services. This involved working with technical and non-technical clients that had diverse needs from general desktop support to data centre outages/disaster recovery scenarios.• Directed a team of 4 system administrators in a leadership role to support and manage critical infrastructure and services within the mining sector. This included the support of a mixture of windows and UNIX environments located nationally in both inner city and rural locations.• Directed many continuous improvement projects involving application resiliency, disaster recovery solutions and the deployment of automated configuration management across an existing fleet of devices through the use of Puppet.
