Nsf Intelligent And Interactive Media Reu InternNorth Carolina State University May 2014 - Aug 2014Raleigh, North Carolina, UsI was part of a small team that worked in the CIIGAR Lab at NCSU on the development of an Android application entitled "Draw This!" "Draw This!" is a single player game that requires a user to draw a specific object when prompted with either an image or text. Players receive a score for their drawing based on how similar it is to a selected reference image. My responsibilities included the development and design of the game portion of the application and the research and implementation of the scoring algorithm which used trained neural networks that recognized specific objects. "Draw This!" was currently still in development at the time of my departure. -
Software AnalystThe Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company May 2013 - Jul 2013Akron, Oh, UsI worked as part of a small team whose job was to reduce the run time of Goodyear's Multi-Performance Optimization (MPO) tool as part of The College of Wooster's Applied Mathematics Research Experience (AMRE). The tool was written in MATLAB, Visual Basic, FORTRAN, and Microsoft Excel, where Microsoft Excel acted as a front-end for data manipulation and organization, while MATLAB was used to carry out the optimization process. The team analyzed thousands of lines of sparsely commented code written in multiple programming languages in order to understand how the program worked and to determine where bottlenecks were occurring. Overall, we were very successful and achieved a 35% percent increase in speed. We also offered multiple ideas for possible future enhancements to the program.
