I have always been quick to understand new technologies and what they can do. With over 25 years of experience in the tech world, I have seen many technologies either flourish or fizzle. With a background that includes strategy, product, technology, architecture, and startups, I know how to commercialise the latest technology developments within a range of business constraints. As an executive leader, I build organisations that rapidly turn emerging technologies into products that customers love. Most recently, I was Head of Telstra Labs, driving the innovation engine of Australia's largest telco. I developed a repeatable process for a pipeline that, working with customers and partners, took emerging technologies through exploration, validation and realisation stages. During my time at Telstra, the work of my team led to new product announcements in categories like IoT (Telstra Locator), gaming (Telstra's partnership with Microsoft on XBox Cloud Gaming), 5G (5G Touch and Track), and cybersecurity (Telstra Safe Social), as well as a bunch that were prototyped and stayed internal for now. I had the pleasure of working into sectors such as banking/finance, transportation/logistics, retail, agriculture, mining/resources and government.I believe that strategic decisions about technology need to be informed by hands-on experience with those technologies, and technology leaders are enabled to perform at a high level through supporting them with access to technologies and a suitable environment for quickly evaluating them with external parties. In this way, the team quickly drew out insights about AI/ML, private 4G/5G networks, drones, AR/VR/mixed reality, IoT, edge computing, software defined networks, cybersecurity monitoring, and blockchain. All good buzzwords for the LinkedIn search engine to find in my profile, as well. Most recently, I have been diving deep into quantum computing, and the resulting impacts and opportunities for the wider industry, including post quantum cryptography (PQC). Through my roles on the board of Silicon Quantum Computing Pty Ltd, the GSMA Post-Quantum Telco Task Force, and in the Steering Committee for the CSIRO Next Generation Quantum Graduate program, I have been working to set up Australia for a successful future here.I am known for spotting the issue that everyone will be worried about next year, creating a culture of open collaboration and innovation, supporting and developing people to do work they had never done before, and being able to clearly explain complex topics from deep technology to business strategy.
