Hired by the University of British Columbia to assist Dr. Leili Tafaghodi in research regarding Smith-Pierce copper converters with specific application to optimizing process parameters. Designed and implemented experiments for cold model testing. Gas flow rate + velocity and temperature gradient effects on mixing and splashing were the primary focus of the study. Drafted research proposals and presented our work at the end of the internship. Used MS excel, autoCAD, and laboratory tools to run feasibility tests, model physical phenomena, and draft hardware designs for the proposed experiments. Extensive thermal and kinetic modeling, analysis, and design.
