In 1939, amid his quest to complete his life’s work, the English author J.R.R Tolkien penciled a short story he called ‘Leaf, by Niggle’. The story reflected Tolkien’s frustration trying to capture his vision for the Lord of Rings on paper before his journey to the next life must begin.
