Working across the University to define and implement strategic approaches to improving our impact on climate, biodiversity and other areas of sustainability.

Coordinating the development and implementation of the University’s Climate Strategy, and managing the analysis of the Universities sustainability performance with a focus on the University’s greenhouse gas emissions, including carbon emissions.

Engaging with a wide variety of individuals and teams from across many disciplines in the University I identify opportunities for improving sustainability in laboratories, and facilitate the implementation of these improvements. Areas of focus include energy, water, waste, chemical inventory management, sample management, lab-user behaviour and identifying/negotiating funding for any purchases.

Undertaking energy, waste and water efficiency audits for small and large business clients, as well as public sector organisations. Working on energy efficiency (EE) and renewable energy (RE) opportunity assessment projects my main responsibilities were: Identifying EE opportunities for communities and businesses Identifying site specific opportunities for all mainstream RE technologies Using software such as PV Sol, Wind Farm and Global Mapper (GIS) to model and map opportunities, resources and constraints Accurately calculating savings, energy yield and complex financial analysis Identifying and describing the planning and legislative environment to clients Identifying and engaging with potential clients, suppliers and contractors Project management, providing client support, stakeholder engagement, contractor and tender advice Completing project proposals to clients (including Carbon Trust, Community Energy Scotland, various local authorities and housing associations)  Developing an Environmental Management System internallyAchievements: Achieving recognition from the Energy Saving Trust allowing me to conduct site EE and RE assessments for SMEs without any supervision Completing several EE and RE Opportunities Assessments for the Carbon Trust across a wide range of industrial and commercial businesses Completing private contract RE feasibility studies for a wide range of clients Success in tenders for work with Kilfinan Community wind project, Impact Arts RE feasibility study, and East Fife Community wind project

Advising businesses (SMEs) on energy efficiency and renewable energy at their site and training their staff in energy efficiency and sustainable transport. Attending site visits with consultants and co-authoring of energy reports  Creating and nurturing relationships with clients, partners and others Project management - marketing, implementation, monitoring & evaluation. Managing external contracts with consultants, and the related budget Coordinating consultants and other agencies to provide the best support Organising and judging environmental awards Voluntary role of Environmental Representative for Changeworks with sole responsibility for running and maintaining the ISO 14001 accredited Environmental Management System (EMS), producing the annual carbon footprint for the organisation, and running a multi-site green team.

From analysis and target setting through to implementation of environmental improvement initiatives and ongoing advice to colleagues, I created understanding among the Subsea 7 workforce and key stakeholders. Joint responsibility for running and maintaining the Environmental ISO 14001 accredited EMS and creating and managing strategies for continual improvement of the company’s environmental performance. Monitoring and measurement (including carbon footprinting), training staff, reporting to management, producing annual plans and targets, identifying opportunities for improvement, internal and external auditing, site inspections Implementing energy efficiency improvements
