I was an intern to the Honorable Matthew Lucas. I was assigned several cases for which I reviewed the attorney's appellate briefs, researched the relevant issues, drafted an analysis recommending the proper disposition, and presented the case to the appellate panel. I also reviewed judicial opinions and provided research memorandums as necessary.

I assisted attorneys and paralegals with clerical tasks, including answering the phones, maintaining filing, creating marketing resources, and the coordination of firm events. I also received hands-on experience with many processes of Workers' Compensation defense, including medical bills listings, medical record summarization, claimant depositions, and mediation.

I worked with students individually to help them succeed at the writing process. This entailed research, organization, drafting, and editing. When I read a paper with a student, I reflected back to him or her its meaning as interpreted by an impartial reader to make sure that the student is saying what they intend to say. I offered feedback on which parts need clarification or raise questions that should be answered, but more importantly I let them know which parts excite me as a reader. My goal was to leave the student feeling confident and inspired to continue into the next stage of the writing process.I also occasionally gave presentations to classes of younger students about the stages of the writing process and about the resources that Rollins makes available to them to help them succeed.
