In October 2024 I completed 13 years as General Secretary (chief executive) of the Fabian Society, the Labour affiliated think tank. I am currently working as a public policy consultant.I specialise in public policy, social research and political impact; and in leadership of non-profit organisations. My policy expertise includes labour markets, public services, social security, pensions, social care and population ageing. At the Fabians I have worked very closely with senior Labour politicians and in 2022-2023 I led an independent review of adult social care for the party. Key elements of my proposals for a National Care Service were included in Labour’s policy programme. Before joining the Fabians I was director of policy and public affairs at Age UK and I have governance experience, including as a school chair of governors and treasurer of an EU think tank.
