I am working as a public policy consultant for a range of clients, currently focused on adult social care, housing and pensions. Projects include supporting adult social care system leaders to develop proposals for the National Care Service in England.

For 13 years I was general secretary (chief executive) of the UK's oldest think tank and political society - established in 1884 and a founder member of the Labour Party. I grew the society to achieve a turnover of £1.3m, with 18 staff, 100s of volunteers and around 7,000 members. At the Fabians I authored, co-authored or edited over 50 reports covering topics including the labour market, social security, pensions, public services and social care. In the role I worked very closely with senior Labour party politicians and in 2022-23 I led a review of adult social care reporting to the party. Key elements of my proposals for a National Care Service were included in the party's programme.The Fabian Society is a complex organisation with a very high profile for its size. I was responsible for: leadership and strategy; governance and democratic accountability; membership systems, experience and activism; fundraising; financial management; internal change projects; social and economic research; policy development; editorial and publication; senior political networking and advocacy; writing and editing reports and articles; marketing, PR and media relations; conferences and events.

Elected to represent socialist societies on the Labour party National Policy Forum (2018-2024) and Joint Policy Committee (2022-2024). Member of the Labour party policy commissions on work, pensions and equality (2018-2022) and Britain in the World (2022-2024).The National Policy Forum (NPF) is a body of Representatives from all the major groups in the Labour Party, from constituency parties and regions to affiliated trade unions and socialist societies. Its role is to shape the Labour Party’s policy agenda. NPF Representatives read and discuss submissions received via the Labour Policy Forum website, and discuss them in the relevant Policy Commissions.The JPC has strategic oversight of policy development in the Labour party and acts as the steering group for the National Policy Forum. It is a joint committee made up of national executive, frontbench and National Policy Forum representatives.
