This role included several greenfield projects as well as a heavy refactoring of an existing mono-rails application. Refactored media analytics data collection from Rails to highly available Dropwizard application running on EC2. Setup continuous deployment for both the frontend Rails application and backend analytics collector. Added availability monitoring, code coverage and code health metric reporting to all applications. Designed and coded API driven video/audio transcoding framework using grape and sidekiq to replace AWS elastic transcoder that resulted in a 92% operational cost savings.

In this role I was responsible for overseeing development projects and their integration in to operations. This included multiple green field projects as well as refactoring legacy systems. Designed, prototyped (with Sinatra and ElasticSearch) and developed Pytch, a mobile video ad platform using Cassandra and Dropwizard. Refactored affiliate tracking system to use 70% less space while decreasing response times.

This role had me split my time 20% managerial and 80% development. As a developer, I prototyped and orchestrated the migration from SpringMVC to REST/ember.js for our account management and internal administrator tooling. By also forcing our organization to “eat our own dog food” our new API system has seen a huge improvement usability. I have added several more services into the Cassandra cluster, a ClickBank version of a URL shortener, a distributed locking mechanism, and a real-time serial refunder detection algorithm. During the company hackathon, I created a real-time order form split test optimizer based on customer profiling using Redis and Cassandra. As Director of Development, I was responsible for 14 developers, 5 QA, and 1 project manager. I meet product management and C-Level executives for requirements gathering and lead the technical design sessions. Also assisted in task prioritization and roadmap planning, ensuring that we executed to plan with high levels of code reuse.

In this role I managed a development team including qa that grew in size to 10 members. I used this position to mentor and promote talent from within the team.Along with my managerial duties, I worked on several large projects. Along with a small tiger team we implemented joint venture payments, allowing our clients to distribute funds from transactions in an almost unlimited tiered fashion.I also researched several NoSQL data stores for tracking and reporting affiliate attribution. After completing several prototypes, I designed, implemented and deployed a multi-node, multi-data center Cassandra cluster that now contains 3T of data. Having this datastore has given us real time insight into our client and order traffic as well as our affiliate network. This also led to two patent pending techniques for affiliate attribution.

As one of the four software developers, I worked closely with the Architect to port the existing PHP e-commerce platform to an extensible, scalable and highly available Java, Spring and Hibernate system. This included tracking systems processing >8 million requests per day and a PCI level 1 certified order processing system. During this time I completed several third-party integrations including payment processing through PayPal and multicurrency conversion and reconciling with E4X. I also worked closely with the Application Support department to implement a reconciliation process against PayPal.

During this time I developed database applications for sales accounting, reporting and auditing companies. Developed OCR document auditing system that was used to discover accounting discrepancies that was later used in a successful lawsuit. I also worked on several hardware projects, building, testing, and deploying new computers into existing network infrastructure. I worked on all manners of equipment – from phone systems, networked copiers to dumb terminals, printers and industry specific software.

As a member of small development team I was Involved with the entire life-cycle of each project. We met with executive level management to plan and gather requirements for www.neighborhoodlink.com. I lead the creation of a fine grained security system for administrators. Other projects involved Internet security, E-commerce, discussion servers, wireless presence, chat servers, and a wide variety of server-client applications

Designed software for custom real estate application, including a system for automating the creation of new listings in MLS and generating all the required forms and documentation. Created and maintained company web site. My duties also included handling all office hardware including upgrading systems, setting up / maintaining LAN, and setup of agent systems. Trained agents and staff on real estate software and office related applications.
