I case managed and taught Special Education students grades 10-12 at Jesse Bethel High School in Vallejo, CA. This included extensive collaboration with General Education faculty regarding Individual Education Plan goals and accommodations in the General Education setting. Our push-in service model required daily communication with General Education staff to coordinate support for our students with learning disabilities to ensure success in a fully mainstreamed schedule.I worked within the Special Education department to create and pilot several online tools for case managing students at the high school level. Use of these tools expanded to the entire department by June 2013.

River City High School

Collected data relevant to students Individual Education Plans (IEPs) from formal testing, state testing data, curriculum based measures, and general education teacher input. Analyzed data from various sources to report on student progress, make program recommendations, and to create new, appropriate goals for students. Communicated with caregivers weekly and as needed regarding any complaints, problems, or expectations to produce solutions satisfactory to student needs and district limitations. Organized and maintained student IEP files for compliance with federal law. Created and used schedules to ensure proper timelines were met for each student's file and each student's annual meeting. Coordinated and scheduled meetings among IEP team members including general education teachers, administration, parents, special educators, and other service or care providers to comply with federal timelines. Managed classroom staff in allocating time to multiple tasks including student supervision, running small group instruction, classroom and lesson preparation. Balanced preparation time among as many as four different subjects per semester to prepare for student lessons and projects in classroom teaching. Planned lessons with accommodations to meet the individual needs of students in my classroom and assisted general education teachers in accommodating their lesson plans to meet federal requirements regarding teaching individuals on Individual Education Plans.

Sullivan Middle School

Co-wrote a technology grant for the English department for new SMART boards, scanners, projectors, and laptops in five classrooms which led to increased student engagement and technology use as well as increased collaboration among department personnel.Collaborated with English department to establish accommodations to lesson plans to meet individual student needs as needed for compliance to IEP requirements. Trained colleagues on initial implementation of Special Education Information System database software. Member of School Site Council where we allocated funds for departments to acquire substitutes and plan long-term goals and common teaching strategies. Analyzed student test data to write school Site Plan. Co-wrote School Improvement Plan budget based on Site Plan goals. Facilitated students in creation of their own IEP transition goals with the IEP team. Created and implemented a behavior management system including a token economy, level system, and Behavior Intervention Plans.

Loma Vista Elementary

This position was my first teaching position and was a county collaborative program called Cornerstone. We had ten students with severe emotional disturbance, two district para-educators, two county para-educators, and two county psychologists on site with me to work with students. These students required a rigid and predictable structure and the staff helped me implement a token system and level system to support appropriate behavior in the class. In this position, I began writing my own IEPs and academic assessment reports as part of keeping my students files in compliance.

This was my first job in education as a classroom assistant to the teacher. I helped run discrete trials and take data for IEP goal tracking and lead the classroom in the absence of the teacher. I was also trained in crisis prevention and Pro-ACT (formerly PART) for hands on interventions when needed.I worked in a classroom with 9-11 year old students with emotional disturbance and later that year with older students with autism spectrum disorder and developmental delays.
