I qualified as a solicitor in 1985 and have specialised in litigation for over 30 years now which is a scary thought! I have improved as a lawyer over the years through acquiring life experience with all its ups and downs! I believe that all problems have a solution and always try to see the big picture and not get bogged down in the minutiae of a problem. That tends to get results quicker and saves a lot of time and money!I have been extensively involved in helping other charities and the like in my town but through presssure of work have had to pull back at the moment.I am working very long hours which is no hardship as I love what I do. Helping people makes me happy. I truly believe that deep down all people are good but life has taught some people who are unpleasant that to be alright they have to harm others. Director (Non-Executive)Doncaster Chamber Dec 2009 - Jan 2012I have reluctantly had to stand down from the Board through pressure of work as it does take up a lot of time and though unpaid, the rewards are worthwhile as it helps all business in Doncaster which is a town that I love. I sit on the membership sub committee of the Board. Since being elected in December 2009, I have learned a great deal about the way the Chamber board operates. I do feel though that all organisations must try very hard to listen and consult as otherwise they can be seen as uncaring and irrelevant. That is clearly not so with the Chamber but we must always be vigilant and reach out. -

I was sorry to stand down but being a director of the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce was felt to possibly cause a conflict.

Within 4 years of setting up on my own with just a secretary we grew to 59 in number creating a new job every 5 weeks on average over that period with a turnover of £2m at its peak. We became the 4th largest firm in the conurbation. I then took a back seat focussing on other interests. In 2002 we ceased taking on legal aid clients owing to the rates being paid and so the firm reduced in size. I transferred the company to my wife on my divorce and started up again in my home town.
