In the first phase of Basic Training, or the Yellow Phase, we started to adapt to Army life and learn about discipline, teamwork, Army programs, traditions, and more. These first weeks included physical training, first aid, army programs, and core values.During the second phase, known as the Red Phase, we trained to handle weapons and equipment, as well as learn other hands-on aspects of being a Soldier. These weeks included training with our assigned weapon, hand-to-hand combat skills, and obstacle courses. These skills are evaluated in a field training exercise known as the Hammer.In the third phase, also called the White Phase, we train with our rifle and master how to work effectively within small teams. These weeks include basic rifle marksmanship, maintenance, target engagement, combat development, and a two-day field training exercise known as the Anvil.In the last phase, or the Blue Phase, we refine and apply everything we've learned so far, as well as complete the final rite of passage from civilian to Soldier in a three-day field training exercise known as the Forge. These consist of handling more advanced weaponry, grenades, advanced marksmanship, maneuvering, and land navigation.
