I work at startup called ELARA AI, and we are building a platform to solve complex buisness problems by simulating and optimizing a digital twin of business activities. Here I have helped design our low-code interface for generating digital twins from data in client systems, implemented an incremental compute engine, crafted a simple embedded programming language, and made advancements to our event simulation, machine learning and optimization capabilities. I am currently architecting and building a distributed data and task management platform to bring our product to cloud scale - so we can optimize even more buisnesses!In my spare time (haha) I do some part-time lecturing at the University of Queensland, helping teach a course for undergraduate maths and science students to get their hands dirty solving mathematical problems with simulation and data science. The course has a focus giving students a prespective of developing mathematical software in industry (outside of academia), such as using tools and writing code suitable for a team environment.Previous to my current role I was an algorithm and software engineer at Fugro Roames, applying machine learning techniques to big data in order to make sense of and to model the physical world. I enjoy most taking on challenges, learning new things from a wide range of fields, and picking up new skills. I have extensive experience in numerical simulation, optimization, machine learning, data engineering and backend systems, in languages such as TypeScript, Julia, C++, MATLAB and python. I have been a champion of the Julia programming language for solving mathematical problems - teaching at UQ, building cutting-edge systems at ELARA and previously having helped the research team at Roames to be its most productive by developing common tools and technology. I am the author of several Julia packages (at least one of which is popular, and another infamous) and have made contributions to the core language library.In a previous life, I was a postdoctoral researcher interested in the many wonderful features of quantum physics. Amongst other things, I have developed advanced numerical techniques to efficiently simulate many-body quantum systems on classical computers, invented new classical and quantum coding techniques, and undertaking dynamical simulation work on ultra-cold gas experiments particularly involving entanglement studies and optical lattices.
