Co-founder of Redline Software inc. I take on all roles related to the managing and the developing of software for various clients and in-house software projects; ie. planning, management, development, QA.The majority of client projects involves the development of web software using the Ruby on Rails framework. Occasional client projects includes Windows desktop software and mobile app development.Along with working on a variety of client projects, we at Redline have also developed various products in-house.

Full-time contract position.Developed a web front end for a wireless intrusion detection system using PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and shell programming. The front end interfaced with a certificate authority implemented using OpenSSL, an administration database and a FreeRadius database used for user authentication. The server configuration consisted of one web server that communicated (via SSH) with a database/certificate server. Experience with Apache and Linux was required.Also worked mostly with the Jabber protocol, WMI and C++ to create a custom messaging client for windows that interfaces with an in-house jabber server and the website developed during the previous contract. The open source C++ library, jabberoo, was used for the client along with WMI for querying wireless devices. I also integrated and extended a jabber logging utility called bandersnatch, for reporting purposes, which required knowledge or Perl. Additional perl and shell scripts were required for various system functions. A Windows Mobile 2003 port of the messaging client has also been produced for use on PDA’s.
The administration web site that I had previously developed in PHP required a redesign due to new requirements and functionally laid out by management. It was decided that the new site would use the Ruby on Rails framework due to my recommendation. At this point development has progressed quickly, has produced more robust code and consists of a richer user interface.

Part-time contract position.Developed a registration system for the Commerce Business Banquet for I.H. Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba. The banquet attracts over 650 participants annually.Technologies used were PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript and MySQL.

EISI is a leader in financial planning software with over 35,000 users in North America. At EISI I developed software for both desktop (windows application) and browser (web) based applications. The desktop applications involved work using C and C++ doing general bug fixes. The majority of my time was spent on the browser based applications where I worked with XML, XSLT, JavaScript and HTML doing new feature development, UI enhancements and general bug fixing. I was a key resource to EISI as a developer providing the necessary skill and knowledge in order to meet important deadlines and to improve the overall functionality and quality of their applications.

Team Leader (July 2001)---------------------------------Promoted to team leader, which provided me with more control over the development process and allowed me to supervise the work of fellow developers; 4 in total. Continued as the prime architect for the application. Identified as “Top Talent” at Nortel Networks in September 2001 for my continued dedication and quality of work.Lead Software Architect (Jan. 2001)------------------------------------------------Promoted to lead architect for a new network planning application. The new application was developed using C++ and based on the Opnet Netbiz API. Created an object-oriented framework to wrap a subset of the Netbiz API, which was written in C. First-point of contact for the design of new features. Participated in all peer code reviews.Software Developer (Feb. 2000)-------------------------------------------This position is an extension of the co-op term (Sept. ‘98 - Dec. ’98) below. Features consisted mainly of improvements and additions to network planning problems such as routing and capacity planning. Development targeted the Windows platform using Visual C++ and MFC. During this position I encouraged refinement of the development process, which included design documents, the use of UML, and peer code reviews. Developed a functional prototype--in less than half the time normally expected--that was based on our existing application and was of very high value to the company since it was used to demonstrate new technologies to prospective customers.

Third of three co-op work terms during university.Developed a client and server on the Windows and VxWorks platforms, which communicated with each other using sockets. The server was a Windows application written using Visual C++ and the MFC library. The client was a set of classes written in C++ for the VxWorks platform. Created design documents and held review meetings for all feature work. Part of a group to improve various aspects of the existing software development process.

Second of three co-op work terms during university.Developed new features and debugged existing code for a network planning application using Visual C++ and the MFC library. The applications interface was very graphic oriented, which provided users with immediate visual feedback. Ease of use and user-friendliness were top priorities in the design of the interface. Feature work consisted mainly of GUI programming which relied heavily on the MFC library. Created a custom control for use within the application that added much needed functionality and ease of use over the previous solution. Used Visual SourceSafe for source code management.

First of three co-op work terms during university.Installed and tested an internal suite of tools on Windows and Macintosh platforms with various configurations. Created progress reports to improve the installation and testing process. Performed software Y2K testing for internal customers. Developed a web site, using HTML and JavaScript, which advertised our Y2K testing services and also allowed customers to sign up directly.
