The power of a narrow focus and understanding how to start and build on momentum, well outlined by Jim Collins as “the fox and the hedgehog” and “the flywheel”, have been the driving forces behind success I have enjoyed throughout my career. Other powerful influencers which I have learned valuable lessons over the years include Jordan Peterson, Malcom Gladwell, Patrick Lencioni, Grant Cardone, Jocko Willink and Simon Sinek. While these and many others who have achieved high levels of success, I take the common denominators they share in work ethic, personal growth, learning from mistakes, focus on purpose and being in service to the teams that they lead as core values in my approach.Leading teams to highly successful results in comparison to their peers has largely come with a focus on being competitive with yesterday’s version of the team and of me. Execution of the chosen plan takes priority over the quality of the plan itself. Keep things easily understood by ensuring the black and white is understood through policy/procedure and the intent behind policy/procedure is understood to work through the grey goes a long way in keeping a team focused and highly productive.
