As an information technology professional and researcher, I bring a unique perspective to technology and design, challenging the status quo through innovative security solutions, interdisciplinary research, and holistic teaching. We've all had bad experiences with technology, and I want to make it better. Over more than 15 years, I've evolved from a technical writer and editor, to a designer and developer, and now to a security engineer, program manager, and consultant leading initiatives across diverse industry and academic settings. My work transcends traditional boundaries, focusing on how digital technologies become integrated in our daily lives and impact society and culture. My journey began with a deep-rooted fascination for classical languages at the University of Notre Dame, which led me to pursue graduate studies in English and rhetoric and writing at Virginia Tech.Throughout my graduate work, I studied digital technologies to better understand the materialism of writing, online genres, and implications for contemporary rhetoric. I was drawn to the philosophical depths of technology's impact on society, reflecting on how ancient wisdom and modern humanities and social science theories can inform how we understand digital innovation. This led me to human-computer interaction, which I apply today to champion human-centered approaches to cybersecurity. Many are initially confused by my background, but to me my work has always been connected by a passion for problem solving, a keen interest in the human experience, and a healthy aversion to disciplinary boundaries. At Triple Point Security, I'm not just a consultant; I'm an advocate for creating secure digital environments that prioritize organizational cultures, people, and user experience. In the classroom at Virginia Tech, I strive to foster a similar zeal in my students, blending computer science concepts with a nuanced understanding of human needs.Mentorship is core to my professional identity. Whether managing the Triple Point internship program or teaching computer science courses, I support the next generation of technical experts with meeting their personal and professional goals through a meaningful career that contributes to their communities.Join me on my journey of discovery and innovation, where every challenge is an opportunity to learn, grow, and redefine what's possible! I am looking for networking opportunities, research collaborators, and new clients. Please email me at akulak at vt dot edu for teaching and research or akulak at triplepointsecurity dot com for consulting.
