Core student, financial and administrative data for the management of all Victorian Public Schools is maintained in a system called “CASES21”. As the Enterprise Architect for the project (sole technical resource), I consulted with senior management and key business stakeholders to formulate and present a strategic platform design, overcoming significant challenges as a consequence of significant budgetary constraints:•Build, deploy and transition a Private Cloud SOE platform to support the workloads of all Victorian Public Schools (approx. 1750 schools, 5500+ concurrent users) realising $1M+ per annum cost savings in licensing costs•Develop and document policy guidelines governing SOE design principles and underlying framework•Develop operational process documentation and guidelines adopting Microsoft best practices, a requirement for a complex ICT system supporting a state-wide user base.•Design, build and integrate process automation integrating efficiencies that are realised by the business•Integrate enhancements, such as a web service for time-tabling and attendance management to support 75,000 teachers state wide

HealthSMART Services uses state of the art technology housed in the Whole of Victorian Government data centres and other locations to underpin its application delivery. HealthSMART Services applications run primarily on servers from IBM and HP, using the Windows, Linux & UNIX operating systems. Currently HealthSMART Services supports over 1500 servers for production, non-production and disaster recovery services for over 60,000 users. The estate is under pinned by WoH (Whole of Health) private IP WAN called HealthNET supplied by Telstra’s IP WAN infrastructure.

The Common Technology Infrastructure (CTI) initiative is proposed to improve the productivity of the Victorian Public Health Sector (VPHS), and reduce the cost of ICT service delivery within the VPHS.CTI will achieve this by making authorised access to computer systems by sector staff easier and more secure to use and manage, it will allow greater collaboration within and between health agencies and HealthSMART, and it will reduce Information and Communication Technology (ICT) costs by removing duplication and achieving economies of scale for some ICT services common across agencies.The CTI initiative is an ambitious and far-reaching undertaking that has the potential to transform aspects of the VPHS landscape related to the effective use of technology, and in the main relies on approaches and capabilities already demonstrated within the VPHS. It is a robust and timely supplement to the HealthSMART program, and is well aligned to national eHealth initiatives and the strategic directions of Victorian Health ICT. CTI is a key part of the transformation of health sector ICT resulting from implementation of the HealthSMART Clinical System.

United Petroleum Pty Ltd (United) is a large and successful independent Australian owned Oil Company. United operates as a network of around 200 United service stations and convenience stores with plans to expand the network. Motrex joined the United Distributor group of companies in September 2005. During this time I accepted a promotion to the position of National IT Engineer for United Petroleum, my family and I relocated to Victoria.
