My responsibilities include teaching and training offenders in basic horticulture and hard landscaping with the backing of Green Gym, sponsored by the Big Lottery.I am responsible for a number of innovative projects including:The production of 40% of consumables for the prison kitchens during the summer period.Bio Diversity programmes, involving monitoring and recording regional and UK wildlife.I have designed, commissioned and executed the construction of two ponds and natural wildlife areas, to create wildlife ecosystems and re-establish declining species, such as bees, butterflies and shrews.A number of bird boxes have been installed and include a nesting Kestrel and chicks.My team of offenders and I are involved in a local community project, Maghull in Bloom.Of the offenders involved in the Garden Working Party’s programme, we have a success rate of 86% of ex offenders obtaining employment on release, with one ex offender obtaining funding via the Princes Trust to establish an Arbour-cultural company.Because of the success of the projects, I have received a nomination from the Prison Governor for The Butler Trust, a Royal Award in recognition for services to gardening within the prison service.

Responsible for retail and stock management of sailing and powerboat equipment. This included face-to-face and online retailing, meeting and exceeding targets.

As head gardener of a 140-acre property, I was responsible for;Designing and planting three acres of formal private gardens surrounding the main house.Planning and redesigning fields, paths and boundaries, and general management and maintenance of the remainder of the estate and farm buildings. I worked with architects on various projects including commissioning a large Victorian Greenhouse, and also a large-scale Victorian Walled garden.Maintenance of the estate included commissioning and supervising tree surgeons to carry out remedial tree work. I was responsible for purchasing gardening supplies and construction materials, working within budgets.I was also responsible for a number of special projects and tasks, including some maintenance work on the estate helicopter fleet and vehicles.

Responsibilities included;Machine plant operator clearing sites ready for ground formation and landscaping.Tree pit excavation, planting of trees. Shrub preparation, cultivation, and planting.Maintenance of plant machinery, cleaning and general up - keep of works vehicles and tools used for ground preparation.Senior charge hand (site foreman), liasing with clients on planting plans and amendmentsRunning several sites a month delegating planting works to the company employee.Was responsible for training new employees a variety of skills including plant identification, how to select the appropriate placement, and the use of correct planting mediums. I also taught tree identification and correct planting methods.Also incorporated hard landscaping using a vast variety of materials and methods, including full size lakes and ponds.
