Ecologix designs and manufactures energy-efficient heating and cooling equipment for residential application, including air handlers and heat pumps. My duties as design engineer included R&D and performance testing, various aspects of product design, performing heat loss/gain calculations and duct design for custom projects, and handling day-to-day sales and troubleshooting calls.

STEP is a student organization at the University of Waterloo, dedicated to educating the community about various alternative energy concepts and technologies.Some current projects include: human-powered generators (bike generator), a concentrating solar cooker, hosting a wind turbine design competition, and a solar thermal panel installation on campus.

My thesis project was entitled "Geometric Optimization of Solar Concentrating Collectors through Quasi-Monte Carlo Simulation". During an international work exchange period in Vienna, Austria, I worked at Arsenal Research in the Department of Mobility and Sustainable Energy. While there, I produced a ninety page research paper on the topic of environmentally-friendly heat pumps using CO2 as a working fluid. I also helped to perform a series of fluid film flow tests for use in heat exchanger design.

While working during a summer holiday and the following winter: performed duties to aid in the transition from rough design sketches or architectural drawings to detailed engineering drawings for use in the manufacturing shop; performed basic structural and mechanical calculations for use in member size estimation; set up and operating CNC plasma cutter to produce parts from sheet steel and aluminum.
