Either by design or by accident it seems the purpose of enterprise IT is to create maximum confusion most of the time. Enterprise IT is almost completely dysfunctional yet business leaders are now being asked by suppliers, consultants, customers and their own employees to commit ever greater sums to prepare for "digital" futures that remain largely unknowable. Companies that operate on excel, mainframes, smoke signals and hope are being lured in by salesman with all the latest buzzwords and a kit bag of new acronyms. Others, previously burnt by costly mistakes, stubbornly refuse to take necessary action in the face of certain danger.Blind complacency is no longer an option. Established industries are being disrupted to the core and there are much fewer safe havens. Companies have to provide customers more of what they value while consuming fewer resources or they will fail. Enterprise IT can certainly create more value and reduce resource consumption but only for organizations that know themselves, their customer, and that are honest with their objectives and capabilities. It's an exciting journey and one that I'd be happy to discuss with you.
