Performs, coordinates, and contracts management projects. Enacts strategies for best management of the 77,000+ acre Frank and Joan Randall Preserve. Monitors and protects the unique ecology of the area.

- Completes fisheries and aquatic resource surveys- training with numerous field and lab protocols while assisting with planning design elements. Crew lead for environmental DNA surveys in remote locations and positive contributor to crew relationships and amongst NPS counterparts. Accurate collection, synthesis, and analysis of biological data with rapid identification of various species in the field. Intensive field preparation, physical labor, and critical decision-making required in adverse conditions.

- Collects oceanographic and hydrologic data such as streamflow, and river water-quality, using established methods, sometimes in adverse conditions as part of the Southeast Alaska Inventory and Monitoring Network. Reporting, data analysis, project logistics, purchasing, and routine paperwork common in the office setting. Prepares plots, drafts., or sketches from surveying field notes by GIS and other software. Reports relevant information to supervisors, provides technical, logistical, and administrative support to local fisheries agencies to ensure compliance with rules and regulations in a unique area.- Oceanography, river water quality, and fisheries habitat restoration field work were completed, often by marine boat or occasionally with air travel. Required to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.)- Individually participated in the development of fisheries project plans to evaluate forage fish and habitat, supports development of methods and analytical approaches to quantify fish use and productivity associated with nearshore habitats. Analyzes and synthesizes from diverse data sets like state fishery surveys, NOAA, and local databases in development of ecosystem status reports. Independently organized multiple outreach events with an emphasis on local culture and fishing practices.

- Aids in US Fish and Wildlife Service efforts of recovering raptor species by providing information about the potential harm lead ammunition can cause to scavenging wildlife. The project offers shooting demonstrations and interactive materials for hunters and stakeholders to see the effectiveness of modern lead free ammunition firsthand, while encouraging the widescale voluntary switch through the North American Nonlead Partnership and other supporting sportsmen's groups.- Efforts focused on stakeholders in the range of the California condor supporting hunting stewardship and responsible resource management. -Created educational materials and presentations to familiarize consumers with the sometimes novel subject, occasionally traveling across the country and applying presentations to local sensitive species.

- Provided primary interphase with customers at several weekly farmer’s markets and at the storefront, with an emphasis on educating the public about the company’s sustainability ethics and current fisheries issues. Regularly spoke with owner, other fishermen, and public about issues within the industry.- Markets were run independently- requiring a large amount of independent research, accurate accounting, multi-tasking, and effective interpersonal communication. Other tasks include meat preparation, labeling, stocking, delivery, ordering, and health safety compliance.

- Primary responsibilities include conducting spawning redd surveys, with regular operation of DIDSON cameras, PIT tagging, and software for monitoring of a critically endangered steelhead population. - Position builds upon previous experience with methods of anadromous salmonid spawning surveys, humane capture/tagging of fish, equipment upkeep, extreme decontamination for invasives, and field safety/effectiveness. Supports an actively expanding knowledge base with DIDSON operation and monitoring of fish populations.

- Broad range of assignments effectively collecting data for research and regulation of Chinook salmon and ESA-listed steelhead. Primary role with the Middle Fork John Day Intensively Monitored Watershed Project, with exposure to projects involving fish habitat, screw traps, and salmonid life history assessment.- Demanding schedule of salmonid redd surveys, snorkel surveys, habitat surveys, mark-recapture studies, and assistance with other projects. Provided logistical support for all projects with direction from project leads.- Comprehensive fisheries experiences in equipment maintenance, databases, safety practices in all conditions, humane fish capture/handling, intensive habitat assessment, screw trap operation, and several methods of fish tagging. PIT tagging applications involved use of interphase equipment, the PTAGIS database, and PIT antenna array operation (both passive and active). -Identification of salmonids at all life stages (along with spawning redds) greatly advanced during tenure.

- Evolving set of office and field responsibilities that ensured riverine habitat restoration projects were implemented in the most effective and scientifically-sound manner. As part of the John Day Basin Habitat Restoration Program Staff, positive relationships with landowners and partner agencies were critical to success in the position.- Everyday responsibilities could include contractor and construction oversight, stakeholder contact, permitting, environmental compliance, survey staking with RTK, equipment maintenance, native riparian planting, grant oversight, and completion of all project elements. Personally coordinated most of the program’s outreach efforts.- Collaborated daily with Project Management staff to ensure project requirements and deadlines were completed. Assisted Monitoring department with tasks like salmonid redd surveying, vegetation surveys, electroshocking, Chinook seining, and juvenile steelhead PIT tagging.

- Executed the Great Lakes Coastal Wetland Consortium approved Standard Order of Procedures (SOPs) for field collection of fish, macroinvertebrate, and water quality samples in target wetlands. Data was collected and assessed with the highest degree of efficiency; methods were regularly reviewed and refined in accordance with the SOP.- Enhanced boating and field sampling skills, independently prepared equipment and employed invasive species propagation preventative techniques, collected and entered sample information and in situ variables, along with analysis of soil organic content. EPA Great Lakes Fish Identification certified and practiced in macroinvertebrate identification.- Regular handling of dangerous chemicals, along with assistance with nitrate, ammonium, and phosphorus sample preparation for auto-analysis of water samples.

- Assessed invasive species control techniques with summer sampling primarily involving research dives. Involved in establishing procedures with collaborators and enacting a range of duties such as habitat observation, benthic mat deployment, sample collection, plant identification, and data entry, as well as manual labor preparation for fieldwork such as invasive species prevention. Large amount of boat and truck with trailer driving involved. Experience with aquatic macrophyte identification, sorting, and sample preparation- often independently. Some laboratory assessment done during semester.- Exposed to collaborative state-funded research that enhanced scientific scuba diving and boating aptitude, while gaining proficiency with water quality monitoring, sample analysis, and proper YSI usage.
