It's best know for the beautiful gardens and landscaping.We have always been a model business since the parks creation by my grandfather. We regularly advise many other parks in the area on best practice.The years I spent working in industry have helped me in many ways. Working for a commercial software house taught me how to sell, working in manufacturing helped me to understand the need to change my approach to match the people I'm dealing with and my time working within a law firm expose me to a whole different way of thinking, not to mention witnessing the creation of a brand by a professional marketing team. the day to day operations of a park are challenging to say the least. It is really not the sleepy existence that people think it is. I recently presented to a group of accountants where I mentioned that my customers measure my performance on two things. 1. Their toilets flush and 2. their TV works. Why, well to flush a toilet you need mains water, good plumbing and clean drains and to watch TV you need the Park's cable system to be working and the power to be on. That's the main services monitored. All they need after that is the grass cutting and the flowers for which we are so famous. It's certainly interesting and there's never a dull moment. Show less

To keep my brain ticking over I do consultancy work for several law firms, mostly this employs my IT Skills, but it also I get involved with reviewing processes and procedures (of the non legal variety). In 2007 I helped one major London Law Firm to win the Visualfiles Innovation Award with a solution which integrates reports directly into visual files screens. It's really interesting to see how companies work, actually it's even more interesting when you ask why certain things are done. There's often no answer other than that's the way it's always been done. What it great is that many companies are now very receptive to change, the recession has been a great sobering influence.In the last few months I've been working with companies beyond the law, there's a few park owners who have been interested in employing my skills to look at their systems and procedures. Many of our clients reported that this was the best that they had come across in the legal sector. • I also awarded first place in the 2005 Visual Files award for IT innovation for my work on a reporting solution that addressed issues with their product. Part of my role with the core projects was to look at ways of improving them in terms of "fit & functionality" within the hospitality industry.• The second function of my role was to work with customers in the development of bespoke solutions or large additions to the core products. • The above solutions consist of a mix of web / browser system and traditional client server applications. Technologies employed in the above solutions include: VB6, ASP, IIS, SQL Server, Crystal Reports, Pocket PC.• I managed the development team that provides these solutions; the team covers all areas from development, to QA and Documentation. The Head Office system enabled the distribution of data updates to the sites and for the sites to return daily trading statistics. The project was developed using Visual Basic 4 with Access databases and ODBC to other data sources e.g. FoxPro and Text files.
