Andrew was promoted to New Colombo Plan Ambassador Mentor and selected to attend Australian Federal Parliament in a highly competitive selection process for the successful handover between outgoing and incoming NCP Alumni Ambassadors across universities nationwide in 2019. His successful tenure in the previous year resulted in this competitive appointment among some of Australia’s brightest and most talented young leaders. The role involved mentoring an exclusive cohort of incoming Alumni Ambassadors to maximise the effectiveness of their roles in promoting the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s prestigious scholarship program. This meant sharing of lessons learnt, providing advice, guidance and coaching them to be excellent Ambassadors for the program. The New Colombo Plan Alumni Program is a collaboration between the Department of Foreign Affairs And Trade and Asialink Business to sustain Australia’s people to people, institutional and business networks within the Indo-Pacific region, with young leaders as the driving force behind efforts for a prosperous future.Andrew currently plays an informal ongoing mentoring and advisory role for numerous university students having successfully supported young people in receiving the prestigious New Colombo Plan Scholarship.

The New Colombo Plan is a signature initiative of the Australian Government which aims to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to study and undertake internships in the region. It encourages a two-way flow of students between Australia and the rest of our region, complementing the thousands of students from the region coming to Australia to study each year.Andrew was appointed by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and Asialink Business to be the official Alumni Ambassador (2018-19) for the New Colombo Plan (NCP) initiative at Western Sydney University.Since the start of Andrew's tenure as NCP Alumni Ambassador, he had a vision of leaving behind a legacy for those studying at Western Sydney University for whom share parallel upbringings and experiences growing up as first in family to partake in tertiary education. Through this capacity, he has provided NCP an active voice through a combined 22 meaningful online posts relating to the program via LinkedIn and Instagram, highlighting the investment, significance and opportunities available to young people through the initiative. He has delivered an online module on international networking with Asialink Business, in addition to religiously advocating for the benefits of the program as a catalyst for transformational growth among the next generation of leaders. Andrew's greatest personal contribution however is the fact that he was able to instil confidence among his peers, acting as an example & ‘proof’ of what is possible through proactive involvement with the New Colombo Plan program.Roles and responsibilities included being the first point of contact for NCP on campus; promoting the benefits of NCP to business, higher education and wider community stakeholders; mentoring students applying for NCP Scholarships and representing the DFAT Initiative at professional networking events with key decision makers from within the Indo-Pacific.
