2024 will be my 33rd year working in the FX market. The journey began as a ‘board boy’ at Tulletts Money Brokers in London on the Forward Cable desk, where my role largely consisted of parking expensive brokers’ cars and fetching post lunch ‘teas and choccies’ for my colleagues. My first few years coincided with many market-defining events and I vividly remember Black Wednesday in September 1992 being a day on the boards which taught me a lot, especially the core values of hard work and perseverance – challenging but great fun. In 1995 I leapt the fence from broking to banking – an unusual transition at the time. I joined Northern Trust in a junior sales capacity, rising to manage the sales desk in EMEA during early 2002. During my time at Northern, I was given the opportunity to oversee several business cycles and help guide the FX unit through periods of extraordinary change. My main focus was on adding new, profitable relationships amongst some of the world’s largest institutional clients, corporates, fund managers, family offices and pension funds, plus creating value added, transparent products, including outsourced FX and currency overlay. I was especially proud of my role as a founding member of The EMEA Diversity & Inclusion Council, something that Northern adopted well ahead of its peer group.The FX market has evolved quite dramatically over recent years, which has given me vital experience in e-commerce (electronic trading platforms, algos) and regulatory change. This e-commerce knowledge and change management experience made me an ideal candidate for 360T, where I started in April 2015, looking after Institutional Sales in the UK & Ireland, focusing primarily on Asset Managers, Hedge Funds and Market Taking Banks.I am a highly effective leader and pride myself on being a disciplined FX market participant who takes a careful approach to risk by adapting to and following internal procedures. A tenacious, energetic and loyal company man – everything I have engaged in during my career has been undertaken with passion and commitment, that has in turn driven every one of my professional decisions thus far and something which will continue to guide me in the future.
