This was a fixed term contracted role supporting businesses impacted by the end of brexit. Working with the GC Business Growth Hub and BEIS this role helped businesses to navigate and understand the new system.

The government’s vision for Healthwatch is that it will be the independent consumer champion for the public - locally and nationally - to promote better outcomes in health for all and in social care for adult and children. Healthwatch will provide intelligence including evidence from people’s views and experience to influence the policy, planning, commissioning and delivery of health and social care services. There are 152 Healthwatch established around the country. I was contracted to help incorporate Healthwatch Bury as a social enterprise (CIC) so that it could fulfil its functions as an independent body as of the 1st April 2014. This meant developing a business plan, putting in place governance structures, recruiting staff, and building a strong board and wide membership to ensure that it will provide an effective local voice for health and social care within the Bury area. I worked closely with key partners within the local authority, the CCG and the community and voluntary sector to ensure that we supported local priorities. I also served on the Health and Wellbeing Board providing a strategic direction for developing and commissioning local health and social care services.

MISPA was an award-winning academic enterprise unit based within MMU. It developed and maintained a strong positive reputation for influencing public policy, generating evidence, and supporting practitioners. It operated through a value driven approach to selecting partners and projects. My role as director meant overseeing all aspects of the unit from creating a vision, partnerships, income generation, staff recruitment and development, finances, project reviews and internal reporting. Activities undertaken by MISPA include conducting evaluation, research, consultancy, project and programme delivery, training and networking. MISPA has run projects with partners in the public, private, and community and voluntary sectors. Areas of work include diverse topics such as: public health, education, public policy, volunteering, leadership, and organisational management. I gained experience of working at the highest levels with external partners including several ministers, senior civil servants, Barclays bank, and several regional leads and senior managers within primary care and local government. MISPA developed a strong track record of securing external funding; part of this was secured through grants and tenders and part of it through identifying specific needs and offering a solution that organisations invested in. It won a Times Education Award in 2009 for an innovative longitudinal study with a partner school spanning '10 years, 10,000 children and 1m hours of physical education'. MISPA evaluated a £30m investment programme by Barclays bank - known as Barclays Spaces for Sports this multi-award winning programme was the banks flagship CSR programme. The unit was responsible for generating funds and delivering projects in excess of £2m.
