The program works closely with the arts community in NYC to create cultural partnerships that promote the vibrant life and development of open streets, plazas, and other public spaces.Oversee the $30 million Public Space Equity Program, ensuring that public spaces in high-need neighborhoods receive the maintenance, operations, and technical assistance they require to provide long-term benefits to underserved neighborhoods. The Public Space Equity Program addressed the disparities in funding and resources that exist in public spaces across different neighborhoods. The program requires close coordination with Community Partners and diligent oversight in the allocation of funds, technical assistance, and other resources. By providing support to public spaces in high-need neighborhoods, the Public Space Equity Program has created high quality public spaces and improved the quality of life for New Yorkers.
Acting Deputy Director - Public Space Programming And Partnerships
Created Open Streets and Open Streets: Restaurants in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Both programs are actively providing over eighty miles of public space for safe, socially distant, activity and supporting the recovery of hundreds of NYC’s restaurants. Established the Plaza Equity Program providing maintenance, technical assistance, and programming to plaza partner organizations in under-served communities. Deft management of a $3M+ budget has ensured that NYC’s highest need neighborhoods can reap the benefits of high-quality public spaces. Lead outreach strategies and long-range planning to encourage broad participation in public space programs. Successful strategies expanded the Weekend Walks program from 35 to over 120 car-free events each year on 14+ miles of city streets, reaching over 250,000 New Yorkers. Cultivated relationships with a network of cultural institutions and community-based organizations to provide programming suitable for public spaces. As a result, several organizations have established robust programing partnerships with public spaces throughout the city. Guide a team of urban planners and administrative staff to execute public space programs in an ever changing and challenging environment.
