Direct the Public Space Programming Initiative, a unique program that focuses on supporting public spaces through cultural and artistic programming. Its mission is to promote the positive use of public spaces, create cultural venues in neighborhoods, and support artists and cultural organizations throughout the city. The initiative has produced over 500 events and several design-based projects since its inception. The program works closely with the arts community in NYC to create cultural partnerships that promote the vibrant life and development of open streets, plazas, and other public spaces.Oversee the $30 million Public Space Equity Program, ensuring that public spaces in high-need neighborhoods receive the maintenance, operations, and technical assistance they require to provide long-term benefits to underserved neighborhoods. The Public Space Equity Program addressed the disparities in funding and resources that exist in public spaces across different neighborhoods. The program requires close coordination with Community Partners and diligent oversight in the allocation of funds, technical assistance, and other resources. By providing support to public spaces in high-need neighborhoods, the Public Space Equity Program has created high quality public spaces and improved the quality of life for New Yorkers.

Created Open Streets and Open Streets: Restaurants in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Both programs are actively providing over eighty miles of public space for safe, socially distant, activity and supporting the recovery of hundreds of NYC’s restaurants. Established the Plaza Equity Program providing maintenance, technical assistance, and programming to plaza partner organizations in under-served communities. Deft management of a $3M+ budget has ensured that NYC’s highest need neighborhoods can reap the benefits of high-quality public spaces. Lead outreach strategies and long-range planning to encourage broad participation in public space programs. Successful strategies expanded the Weekend Walks program from 35 to over 120 car-free events each year on 14+ miles of city streets, reaching over 250,000 New Yorkers. Cultivated relationships with a network of cultural institutions and community-based organizations to provide programming suitable for public spaces. As a result, several organizations have established robust programing partnerships with public spaces throughout the city. Guide a team of urban planners and administrative staff to execute public space programs in an ever changing and challenging environment.

Led a dynamic team responsible for addressing constituent issues, creating legislation, and coordinating capital and expense funding. The office developed a reputation for being one of the most accessible and productive in the City. Guided an unprecedented expansion of open space in the district, including the implementation of Diversity Plaza from concept through implementation. Significant community outreach and coordination led to the creation of one of the most loved public spaces in NYC. Directed public outreach events and engaged with constituents, advocates, and elected officials on an ongoing basis. Successfully promoted the Council Member’s legislative agenda and expand his ability to address community concerns on a broad scale. Oversaw press releases and social media strategy in coordination with the Director of Communications. The Council Member’s media presence was robust and he was highly sought after by media outlets for interviews, quotes and other comments.

Directed in-school theater programs with the goal of fostering social emotional learning and improving student attendance. Student attendance improved as did academic performance. Supervised eight teaching artists and administrative staff to organize lesson plans for after-school activities and in-class workshops. Providing consistent and clear direction ensured programmatic consistency. Conducted outreach to student families to promote school attendance and identify challenges getting young people to school. This led to resolving many personal and social issues preventing students from getting to school. Produced culminating events for 100+ students and 25+ teaching artists across 15 dropout prevention sites. Events took place in a professional theatrical setting, enhancing the experience for the young people involved.

Helped to create a theatre company dedicated to amplifying unheard voices. Developed organizational structure and compliance in accordance with Not For Profit guidelines and best practices. Produced readings and world premier plays that helped establish the company.

Initiated the theatre’s first official outreach programs with the goal of developing new audiences. As a result, the theatre’s offerings were introduced to several new and diverse communities throughout the borough of Queens. Produced the theatre’s first LGBTQ+ series, successfully increasing audience attendance from that target demographic. LGBTQ+ programing has become a permanent part of the theatre’s offerings.Guided outreach of the Latino Cultural Festival including design of promotional materials, targeted distribution plans, and forging key community partnerships.

Helped to establish and improve a small theater company producing new works.Established new procedures for the hiring and supervision of designers and staff. Coordinated set build, load in, and strike for one act festivals Off-Broadway performances.

Facilitated arts based program serving at-risk youth. Redesigned an existing program to better connect with and serve young people. Led staff of six teaching artists in facilitating workshops on leadership, responsibility and creative self expression. Doubled program enrollment through outreach performances at local schools and community centers.
