Development of reallymoving.com was brought in-house in Q1 2015 – a process I was recruited to build a development team for and oversee the transition. The team is now 18-strong – a mix of front-end and back-end developers and UX team. Part of our success in building the team is a successful process of recruiting and developing apprentice developers.Focussing on the Microsoft stack, we have implemented an agile development process; migrating to use Git repositories, Azure Dev Ops and a range of different Azure services.Working as part of the senior management team and advisor to the board, I have led the team to continuously deliver new and improved functionality to the site and a complete rebrand (in June 2017), helping the business to achieve records in revenues.I have guided the continuous development of the overall product development process for the business leading to the introduction of cross-functional product teams.

This role involved managing a team of six split across two sites (one in the North West and the other in the South East) providing a central group-wide resource for developing the company websites. There were 21 external-facing websites with another 10 support portals.

Worked extensively with teams across the business to deliver an updated look for the site to support a major brand initiative and to complete the full ecommerce integration of the first aid supplies site with a new back-end SAP system. A new project was launched to develop a replacement ‘intranet’ for the organisation replacing a legacy Classic ASP site with a SharePoint-based site.

Expanded remit included some management of telecoms providers for SJA plus greater expansion of internet access for the network of county offices. The main websites were further enhanced with training for the team on key UX techniques and implementation on the sites. The usage and capabilities of the course booking and first aid supplies elements of the sites increased rapidly during this period. A full organisation rebrand led to a new ASP.Net CMS-based website completely rebuilt following our first user centred project with regular site testing of prototypes with end-users. This work was complemented by the full integration with our back-end booking system leading to true online bookings.

Hired to create St John Ambulance’s first ever national website, launched on time to coincide with a major organisation restructure two months later. Created the first nationwide training course search for SJA by making data being collected for production of training brochures available via the website. The St John Supplies website was brought in house and converted to an ecommerce website. Also, worked closely with the IT team to push the widespread adoption of email, websites and internet access across the then network of county offices.
