Research Assistant
Researcher: Turbulence / Aeroacoustics
I worked on a jet noise reduction project with Dr. Jacques Lewalle from May 2012 until May 2014. Areas of focus include signal processing with an emphasis on the use of continuous wavelets for noise source identification in acoustic and pressure signals, as well as developing and debugging code in Matlab.Under the advisement of both Dr. Lewalle and Dr. Mark Glauser at Syracuse, I also worked on a project involving the use of active flow control to improve vibrational response and aerodynamic characteristics of wind turbine blades in unsteady flow conditions. My analysis heavily utilizes continuous wavelet transforms, correlations, and spectral analysis to identify potentially interesting features of the underlying flow physics.I am currently utilizing data-driven techniques to study complex supersonic jet flows from a low dimensional point of view. In addition to modal decompositions such as Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) and Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD), I also choose to utilize Deep Neural Networks and Recurrent Neural Networks to help unravel the complex fluid interactions in the near field of the complex flows that I study. In addition to this fundamental research, I have also used Deep Neural Networks to model and predict the far-field acoustics of complex multi-stream jets using a subset of geometric features of the nozzle and a low-dimensional description of the flow conditions at the nozzle exit.
