Responsible Officer - Nuclear Maintenance / Hot Cell Remote Handling
Responsible for the delivery of the Hot Cell Remote Handling Systems (HCRHS), building mechanical infrastructure (cranes, lifting appliances, nuclear confinement and shielding doors, cask docking stations, nuclear trolleys, and lifts etc.) and radwaste processing treatment and storage systems of the ITER Hot Cell Complex Nuclear Facility. The ITER HCRHS is a suite of systems that perform remote cleaning, decontamination, maintenance and testing processes on highly activated Tokamak In-Vessel Components (IVCs) within the most hazardous confinement cells of the Hot Cell Complex.Demonstrating the viability of large scale fusion requires the fusion community to prove that the systems can be safely maintained and that machine availability is maximised. Future commercial fusion Tokamaks would not be able to operate without the means to safely maintain, test and dispose of activated and contaminated In-Vessel Components by remote means. The Hot Cell Complex and associated Remote Handling systems therefore provide a critical supporting role to the success of ITER and large scale fusion in general.
