At 28, I was getting severely itchy feet to see more of the world. In my job, I'd been writing about the BRIC countries for a while (even before South Africa was added in 2010) and I resolved to see the lot of them in person.My first stop was India – three months spent on trains, visiting temples, seeing the Taj, Varanasi and a whole lot more – then after some time spent in the jungles and on the rivers of South East Asia, I entered China. I'd done a bus from Vietnam to a town called Nanning, which has just as many people as London. But, with no disrespect to the people of this fine place, I’d never heard of it. After coming back from my trip invigorated, I worked in financial journalism for a few years but I’d still not been to Brazil (or Russia), and I decided it was time buckle down, save some cash and get going again, that was in June 2012. I immediately felt Brazil was what I'd needed in my life, a positive and extraverted culture, and decided to stay. I'm still here now. These days I call Moema in Sao Paulo home and love the fast pace of the city. I’ll have to make it Russia one day and then South Africa to complete my BRICS tour.After a year in Brazil freelancing, I was contracted to work for Bradesco Asset Management's Global Funds division mainly updating Japanese investors on the Brazilian economy, among other things.
