In this position I provide workforce development and training services in the City of Surprise. Working primarily out of the Surprise Resource Center I assist job seekers in obtaining and retaining employment as well as enable local employers to attract and retain highly qualified candidates. This position assists in the administration of a variety of functions to provide essential support to the Non-VA Medical Care Program. Responsible for examining a variety of routine and complex claims for payment. Responsible for examining vouchers, invoices, claims and other requests or payment for good and services. Analyzes each voucher or invoice to determine propriety of payment. Regularly determines the proper amount due and processed the necessary payment transactions. Examines accounts or resolve difficult reconciliations requiring an analysis of adjustments and corrective entries in the account.
Lead Case Manager
As the Lead Case Manager I am responsible for direct oversight of the case managers with the Bullhead City, AZ office of the Veterans Resource Centers of America as it relates to administering the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Grant. Responsibilities include, locating and advocating for homeless veterans in Mohave County, Arizona through the SSVF Program. Assesses veterans referred to the program to include any problems, needs, or barriers identified in the following areas: Housing, Employment, Education/Training, Financial, Sobriety Support/Addiction Treatment, Legal, Family/Social, and Medical/Psychiatric. Coordinates care with VA personnel and other community partners on behalf of clients to for eligibility documentation, mental and physical health services. Facilitates client intake process and compiles client files ensuring all program eligibility documentation is complete. Collaborates with clients to complete Individual Action Plans (IAP). Maintains confidential client files in a professional and timely manner ensuring all forms are the most recently revised versions and in compliance with organization standards; all required documents are present, complete, signed by the client and staff as applicable; and documents are placed in the correct order according to organization standards. Meets with clients as specified by program requirements and documents progress notes in Data/Assessment/Plan (DAP) format. Reviews and documents updates for IAPs on a monthly basis. Completes timely discharge summaries. Conducts home visits (whether at project-based units or scattered site) to provide case management services and ensure health and welfare of clients. Assists in quality management activities, data collection, and preparing reports.
Veteran Benefits Counselor
Received accreditation from the US Department of Veterans Affairs through the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services and the American Legion to file and submit paperwork on behalf of veterans and dependents. Assists pensioned veterans and widows in completing their annual income and medical expense reporting requirements. Visits social services offices, law enforcement agencies, various local human services offices, regional Veterans Administration offices, and state institutions to render advice and assistance to veterans. Assists widows and widowers in securing Department of Veteran Affairs death benefits. Advises veterans on home loans and assists them in obtaining Certificates of Eligibility. Provides guidance on available education benefits for veterans and dependents seeking to utilize various chapters of the GI Bill.
Light Armored Vehicle Crewman
This time period I rose from private to sergeant in the USMC as an LAV Crewman serving first as a driver, then as a gunner, and a vehicle commander. During this time, I held several different billets as well including Company Master Gunner, Training Chief, and Career Planner. Served as the primary point of contact for training requirements between B Co 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion and Marine Forces Reserve and all training facilities utilized between the years of 2008 – 2011. Scheduled, administered, and entered all test information for annual training requirements for a reserve company of Marines. Acted as the unit Career Planner for the above stated Marine reserve unit, where I assisted Marines in planning their military careers. This included processing reenlistments, ensuring Marines had the prerequisite education for reenlistment and promotion, and assisting those with educational shortfalls. Developed and implemented annual training plans that resulted in the timely preparation of and readiness of (150) United States Marines prior to deployment to Afghanistan. Served as a Light Armored Vehicle Commander in Afghanistan responsible for (16) mobile patrols, (10) dismounted combat patrols and (4) night ambush patrols in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Coordinated and facilitated the successful resupply of (35) US Marines, (2) US Sailors and (16) Afghan Border Police while simultaneously conducting above stated combat operations in Afghanistan. Organized the onload and offload of (7) Light Armored Vehicles to United States Naval vessels for transit to and from multiple foreign countries. Participated in numerous large combat operations including Operation Phantom Fury in Fallujah, Iraq and Operation Khanjar in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
