The Student Lab Manager (SLM) Program was designed with the intention to help bring order to a bustling lab of motivated undergraduates. SLMs take on the responsibility of guiding new students, lab trained or not, through the basics of lab safety and etiquette. The program also tries to demystify the idea that a student needs to be well-versed in lab techniques in order to gain entry into a lab. Other roles of the SLM include improving and maintaining the functionality and safety of the lab space; while also making oneself available to help any fellow researcher in need.

Team Zorya is striving to open the doors to mammalian synthetic biology by characterizing a light-activated CRISPR-Cas9 effector (LACE) system while also making mammalian cell culture protocols and genetic parts more accessible to fellow researchers.
