• Investigated the molecular mechanisms that limit aberrant expression of non-coding RNAs
• Discovered that a sequence-specific transcription factor represses divergent non-coding transcription at highly expressed genes, conferring directionality to gene promoters

• Cloned, expressed, and tested purification conditions for 30 subunits of large macromolecular protein complexes in E. coli., for subsequent structural characterisation.
• Gathered data about protein solubility and identified the need for further optimisation of methods.
• Acquired technical knowledge and experience of ligation-independent cloning, protein biochemistry, structural biology, and protein purification.
• Summarised and explained research results to a non-specialist audience in a concise project report.
