Regular structures? Never heard of them!Majority of the projects which I worked with were so much architecturally and structurally non-trivial that no standard design approaches or solutions could be used. Need for inventing these approaches and finding these solutions served as a catalyst for improvement of my skills and professional growth.As a structural engineer in contractor company which delivers turnkey projects my primary aim is efficient and economic structural design. During my 8-year career I have successfully accomplished designs for 10+ large scale civil and industrial projects while working in tight cooperation with steel manufacturers and construction sites. This granted me unique experience and helped to improve my designs in terms of effective production and constructability.My ambition for self-development and curiosity never stops me from learning new things. I am always trying to find out what stands behind certain code requirement or formula, what is the theoretical background for a particular engineering method, which algorithms does analysis software uses to convert your input to the result. I believe that only by doing so it is possible to find alternative and smart solutions for a problem.Apart from standard software set of a structural engineer there are few special items in my list – Grasshopper and LS-DYNA. I used Grasshopper for generation of geometrically complex structural systems, creation of structural analysis models, determination of load distribution over curved surfaces, as well as for many other applications. LS-DYNA, this not-so-user-friendly monster of numerical simulation was a real discovery for me and I believe it has great potential of application in structural engineering field.I am not that kind of structural engineer who knows all the solutions for all standard problems, I am the one who is able to find a special and efficient one for a non-standard problem.
