I started out as the typical “things with wings” guy, kites, RC-planes, hang gliders, choppers, sailboats, you name it. During my studies at ETH the obvious choice was fluid dynamics, and I was naturally drawn towards the wind tunnel, which I had the opportunity to be responsible for as a graduate student and post-doc.While collecting all this data I was more and more interested in understanding and making visible all the small details that contribute to an integral number like drag or lift. And of course, how to use them to improve performance or come up with new solutions.And that has been my motivation ever since: Get good measurement data to understand the system, identify the performance drivers and move things forward!
