Accelerator Beam Diagnostics Scientist
CurrentALBA Synchrotron is a 3-d generation synchrotron light source, which is a 300m circular electron accelerator that generates hard X-rays for material science research. In other words, it is a giant microscope that is used to look inside matter at an atomic level. I am part of the Beam Physics group in the Accelerator Diagnostics division, my role is Beam Diagnostics Scientist. I work with a wide range of particle accelerator diagnostics instrumentation, visible light and X-ray optical systems, fast cameras (gated, streak, CCD, CMOS, interferometry systems), network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes and other lab equipment. I develop software tools in Python and Matlab for internal use, which are used for signal processing, image processing, data acquisition, motions control, numerical analysis, and machine learning. I also develop educational tools for accelerator diagnostics instrumentation and accelerator physics students. The R&D part of my job involves electromagnetic and electrostatic simulations of novel beam diagnostics equipment (beam position monitors, beam current transformers, x-ray monitors, beam loss monitors, etc.), following the creation of new systems from paper to a ready-to-use device: testing, commissioning, maintenance and upgrades.I am also involved in accelerator control room operation.
