Human beings can never escape conflict but they can choose how to deal with it. My work at CEDR over the last two decades has been to help people engage better in conflict or put in place better conflict resolution systems. Whether with individuals in public or private sector organisations, charities, NGOs or government agencies, my focus has been on the improvement of skills and processes in communication and negotiation to lift performance or create space for dialogue. My own learning and development in conflict engagement has been defined by working in many multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural and, often, highly contentious settings. I have led consultancy and capacity building projects with international development agencies on civil justice reform, business stability and anti-corruption initiatives, providing technical assistance and delivering mediation, conflict management and negotiation training in 40 countries. I have trained well over 2000 mediators from all walks of life and have mediated or intervened in hundreds of conflicts and legal disputes.
