About André Gabriel

Today: PhD candidate (2020-present):I am currently pursuing my PhD in Biomedical Sciences with a specialization in Medical Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon. My research work focuses on the study of non-coding RNAs and their role in regulating gene expression, with a particular interest in their implications in cardiovascular diseases. As part of my PhD dissertation, titled "Unravelling the functional interactions between circular RNAs and RNA binding proteins in atrial fibrillation," I am conducting experiments at the Analytical and Structural Biochemistry Unit of the Molecular Medicine Institute João Lobo Antunes in Lisbon, Portugal, under the supervision of Enguita, Francisco J. and Costa, Marina C. Previous work positions (2017-2020):Before my current position, I held several roles throughout my career, including research fellowships and tutoring positions. In 2017-2018, I worked as a Maths, Physics, and Chemistry tutor at 4Brain Learning Centre in Oeiras, Portugal. In June 2018, I began working as a Research Fellow on the project "Role of microRNAs on the left ventricle reverse remodeling after aortic valve replacement in patients with aortic valve stenosis" at Associação para a Investigação e Desenvolvimento da Faculdade de Medicina and the Molecular Medicine Institute João Lobo Antunes, which was supported by FCT (PTDC/DTP-EPI/6127/2014). From June 2019 to November 2020, I continued my research work as a Research Fellow at the same institution. During this time, my research focused on searching for new RNA-based biomarkers for cardiac and renal fibrosis in Anderson-Fabry disease, which was supported by Takeda.Master of Science (2014 - 2016):I was granted my Master degree in Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Aveiro, Portugal in 2016. The research work for my Master's thesis, titled "Suppression therapy of β-thalassemia using Kanamycin and Gentamicin," was carried out at the Human Genetics department of the National Institute of Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge in Lisbon, Portugal.Bachelor of Science (2011 - 2014):Before my Master's degree, I completed my Bachelor of Science in Genetics and Biotechnology at the University of Trás os Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) in Vila Real, Portugal, from 2011 to 2014. For my final year report, I investigated the effect of endocrine disruptors on apoptosis using Danio rerio.ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6565-1600ResearcherID: AAA-9206-2020Ciência ID: 671C-AFF6-AF28ResearchGate: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Andre_Gabriel5
