Andrés Mignucci (born 1957, Ponce, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican architect and urbanist. With over 40 years of professional and academic experience, his work has been recognized for its integration of architecture, urban design and landscape architecture in the creation of public spaces with a sense of place, human scale, and environmental responsibility. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, a Henry Klumb Award Laureate, and recipient of the Distinguished Professor Award by the ACSA. In 2019, Andrés Mignucci was the Arts and Literary Arts Scholar at the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center, Italy. Mignucci studied architecture at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and at MIT (M Arch 1982). He trained as an urban designer with Stephen Carr and Kevin A. Lynch and as an architect with Erich Schneider-Wessling. Mignucci was awarded the National Architecture Prize in 2001 for the Parque de los Niños, San Juan, Puerto Rico and in 2002 for the School of Fine Arts in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. In 2004-2005, his project, La Ventana al Mar, San Juan, Puerto Rico, won awards from the AIA Puerto Rico Chapter Design, the Puerto Rico Architecture Biennale, the Miami + Beach Architecture Biennale (Bronze Medal) and was finalist at the IV. Ibero-American Architecture Biennale. In 2016, La Ventana al Mar was part of the Demo:Polis: The Right to Public Space exhibit at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. In 2022, Mignucci was awarded the American Institute of Architects - Puerto Rico Gold Medal Award for his lifetime achievements and contributions to architecture.Mignucci has taught at the University of Puerto Rico, was the Velux Visiting Professor at Aarhus, and as Visiting Professor at the ETSAB, Barcelona. He is currently Pelli Distinguished Visiting Professor at the School of Architecture at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.
