About Andrés Oyaga
Andrés Oyaga is a program coordinator, educator, organizer, and political agroecologist based in Vermont, with roots in Los Angeles and highlands of Guatemala. He graduated from Middlebury College in 2023 with a B.A. in Environmental Justice, focusing on food systems transformation, organizing, and engaged pedagogy throughout his time as a student and community member. He is currently a community organizer with 350VT pushing for a just transition in the Green Mountain state. Previously, he was the Coordinator for the Climate Action Program at Middlebury College, supporting climate action initiatives and over a dozen fellows working on various projects related to addressing the climate crisis. Andrés supports the People's Agroecology School, a project of Rural Vermont, focused on organizing working brigades at BIPOC farms in Vermont and supporting the long work of food system transformation. Andrés is also a young researcher studying political agroecology and social movements. His research career started as an NSF-funded undergraduate researcher at the University of Vermont in 2022, looking at agricultural development in Uganda. As a part of his honors thesis work at Middlebury College, he organized with and interviewed farmers in Mexico, Cuba, and Vermont and wrote about his experience trying to bring the global agroecology movement to Vermont. He continues to write, think, explore at the intersections of global development, sustainable food, and movements.
