CurrentI manage Cornwall Outdoors, Cornwall Council's Adventure Education and Outdoor Learning Service. We are a traded service within the Local Authority and effectively operate as a stand-alone business, generating our own income. We operate 3 outdoor centres In Cornwall as well as a standing camp on the Isles of Scilly. We are well used by a variety of organisations including schools, colleges, youth groups, families and outdoor professionals. Our centres offer a wide range of experiences to clients including kayaking, climbing, sailing, high ropes, orienteering, mountain biking, canoeing, stand up paddleboarding and environmental education. In addition to the typical taster sessions we offer a range of national governing body courses (e.g. BC, RYA, MIAS) in personal skills and coaching/leadership awards. We deliver a wide range of CPD programmes to teachers and youth workers, both adventure-based and curriculum linked. We also run an Instructor Training programme for those seeking a career in the outdoor industry.In addition to managing this business I am also the Outdoor Education Adviser for Cornwall, advising schools and youth groups on the safe management of visits, and the delivery of high quality outdoor learning. Alongside the advice, guidance and monitoring I deliver a wide range of training programmes including Educational Visit Leader and Educational Visit Coordinator (validated by the Outdoor Education Advisers Panel); Off-Site Safety Management (validated by the Royal Geographical Society) and the National Water Safety Management Programme (validated by the Royal Lifesaving Society)
