Responsible for end to end delivery of network construction activity. Ensuring industry leading client experience delivered to clients. Ensuring seemless design and delivery of network construction activities. This role covers Tendering, Post Acceptance Design, Commercial department and Construction responsibilities.

In this role I lead a multi utility construction business in the delivery of a programme of utility infrastructure projects. Through a rigorous focus on leadership behaviours and commitment to high standards, I ensure the operation maximises value to Clients and the business.

Initially this role involved the implementation of the SSE Smart metering business within Scotland and northern England. In 2012 I was responsible to ensure the business infrastructure was available to support the Onboarding of the first dual fuel engineers within the business. This involved working with key stakeholders within the project to set up a new management structure, depots and stores across the country. Whilst ensuring all associated assets and logistics solutions, processes and equipment were fit for purpose to support the success of the project. It was my responsibility to assess, interview and recruit the first 50 operatives and 5 team managers within the Smart business in teh north of the UK. Post recruitment it was my responsibility to ensure the engineers were trained to the correct standard of technical ability and had the same safety and customer centric values as SSE. Strong leadership, role model behaviour and coaching were fundamental to success in the early stages of business implementation.Post implantation the focus of the role shifted to developing and growing SSE Smart capabilities within Scotland.It is my responsibility to lead the business of circa 100 operational staff, team managers and coaches, ensuring we comply with all Health and Safety legislation, internal procedures and industry best practice. I implement a high of standards approach to workmanship and customer service with a strong focus on performance management activities to support productivity, KPI and financial targets. Whilst undertaking continuous improvement activities to remove any blockers which prevent our engineers delivering a market leading service, This involves cross business and industry collaboration to reduce waste whilst implementing new processes and procedures which drive productivity and reduce terminated appointments.

In this role I was responsible for the leadership of the heritage metering and data collections business which covered from Forfar across Perthshire and Tayside, down through Fife and Edinburgh to the Scottish border. I was responsible for a multi disciplined team of 3 team managers and circa 40 electric engineers and data collectors. The main responsibilities of this role were to ensure the safety of all members of the team whist delivering business KPI’s.

In this role I was responsible for the leadership of a team of data collectors in and around Glasgow city centre. It was my responsibility to ensure the safety of all team memebers whilst driving productivity. The main challenges of this role were ensuring that the team of lone workers felt secure and supported when working around the city late in the evening .To achieve this I created and implemented safety procedures and internal team support structures to ensure I was aware when every member of the team was home safe. A key driver of Data Collector performance is flexible working which requires engagement form the collectors themselves. I created a process which rewarded data collectors for effort based on improvement of historical performance rather than a set business KPI which was unachievable in may areas around the city. This ensured the engagement in flexible working within the team remained high throughout the month and increased productivity.

Creation and execution of planned maintenance schedule to ensure all plant and equipment was compliant with manufactures warranty and operating at optimal efficiency. Emergency response to time critical breakdowns, working under severe time constraints and pressure to minimise down time and financial impact to the business. Maintenance and repair of small on site substation and DC generators. Compliance with all H and S Legislation, safe systems of work, POWRAS, Compliance with all environmental legislation, Operation of heavy plant, lifting equipment and machinery Relocation and energisation of fixed machinery weighing in excess of 20 tonnes. Contributed to the business achieving the highly coveted ISO 9001 accreditation for standardised processes.
