I have been in engineering for over thirty years starting with my apprenticeship at BEAD Engineering. I was always tinkering with something mechanical when I was younger, so it seemed a natural progression.I started out as Fabricator welder, but once I had finished my apprenticeship I moved on to other jobs, all in engineering but it meant I diversified into other forms of engineering. When I was a sub-contractor I was often left to my own devices and often ended up running jobs one way or another so I seemed to naturally fall into a supervisors job. I really do enjoy getting involved in jobs from the start to the very end and because of this I am now an Engineering Co-ordinator. I will often be first point of contact for a customer, meeting with them and discussing the work that needs carrying out. Carrying out design including CAD, although this is not one of my strongest points I will admit! I cost and quote for the job. If I am successful in winning the work, I will then go on to carry out the procurement side, organise labour (which normally includes myself!) and liaise with the customer throughout the course of the works.I have just recently completed a Site Managers Safety Training Scheme course. With all this experience I have gained through the years I now believe I am ready to take the step up to project management. So, I am looking forward to seeing what the future has in store for me!
