Andy was fascinated (okay, obsessed) with learning about technical things since childhood. His boundless curiosity drove him to become engaged in electrics, wireless, audio, projection, lighting, pyrotechnics, electronics, video, information technologies, control systems, AV, communications: indeed, pretty much anything with a wire in it. Since stumbling from performing into stage electrics at high school, he worked at the intersection of technology and production for live performance and broadcast for over five decades. Andy had a variety of careers, beginning in lighting and production technologies and inevitably moving into researching, planning and managing productions and technical operations.In the early days of the computer revolution Andy dived headlong into the world of IT as a developer, content creator, IT manager, and consultant. He was an early adopter of such tools as CAD, and project management for technical production.Andy was always excited to communicate and share his love for science, technology, production and performance, so his last few decades saw him teaching, consulting, and writing about his passions.As a technology journalist and magazine editor, Andy contributed to publications around the globe. He was the founding editor of AV Technology magazine, which he ran for 7½ years. His technical writing included features, whitepapers, tutorials, training material, text books, product manuals, web content, and media releases, across a huge range of topics and technologies. For McGraw-Hill Education and AVIXA he edited the CTS Certified Technology Specialist Exam Guide, Third Edition (2020), the CTS-I Certified Technology Specialist-Installation Exam Guide, Second Edition (2021), and the CTS-D Certified Technology Specialist-Design Exam Guide, Second Edition (2023).Andy’s teaching and training contributions include developing and running Australia’s only professional lighting course and conducting seminars, training courses, and professional development across the entire spectrum of his interests.Through his lifelong participation and leadership in industry bodies and interest groups, Andy endeavoured to encourage, train, develop, mentor, and inspire future generations of industry participants and technology enthusiasts.Despite being driven by his boundless curiosity to immerse himself in the physiology and treatments for gastrointestinal diseases, in early 2024, Andy lost his three-year battle with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer).Do not go gentle into that good night.Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
