I live for history. I'm first and foremost a historian, focusing on Scottish Industry and socialism. I'm also very into the Stewart/Stuart monarchs and I really like ships and social justice. I love research, there's nothing quite like the thrill of finding something nobody else has commented on, like three lines in a newspaper that just absolutely change everything you thought you knew about this topic or person. I currently work at the Rosemount Development Trust as their Community Development Officer, supporting a wonderful community of dedicated people. I lead on a number of important projects in our community including a large scale greening project, a major heritage reclamation project and our Local Place Plan.Otherwise I'm a semi-professional photographer, an experienced marketer, pretty solid with social media advertising, a dab hand at audio editing, and a fairly well rounded graphic designer and illustrator. I also have extensive retail and hospitality management experience. I'm a jack of all trades and a master of like three.I've got quite a diverse working background. My love of history brought me on to three Grade A Listed Building restoration projects, all of which are now restaurants (and a hotel). I worked with designers to ensure authenticity and accuracy in restoration and conversion, as well as graphic designers to ensure brand development captured the spirit of the original buildings. I worked across the bulk of the archival work, pulling together engaging and exciting resources and building an historical narrative for these brands. I've developed an award-winning Doors Open Day programme which saw a mix of informal talks, audio and video presentations, full exhibits with objects, clothing and research. My journey at New Lanark Trust was wonderful. I was there for over 5 year, starting in marketing and eventually moving into Head of Heritage. When I'm not working, I enjoy living a peaceful and quiet life. I spend most of my free time researching history, learning new recipes or, frankly, binging the latest whatever on Netflix. I like to go to gigs, listen to podcasts and generally live a quiet and happy little life.
