Acquired by Forgacs as a key part of their diversification strategy, as other less adaptable assets were being divested.

Forgacs was Australia’s largest privately owned engineering and shipbuilding company, trading locally with OEM’s, shipping lines, mining and energy companies, as well as the Australian Navy.With the absence of regular defence shipbuilding contracts and the volatility of large commercial fabrication projects, this division needed divesting to a buyer who was better placed to consistently leverage the infrastructure and capability. Forgacs was divested in February 2016 to Civmec, an integrated engineering service provider.Simultaneously, a new direction needed establishing to deliver ongoing operations in diverse international markets, providing high value and repeat opportunities. Broens was acquired as a product and service platform, with niche capabilities relevant to a broad range of markets - thus creating resilience to volatility in any one market. This distressed acquisition was commercially and operationally transformed into a growing and profitable future opportunity for the group.
