About Andy Ellison
I am passionate about graphic design. My main interests are that of typography, editorial design and information design. I have a love of letterforms, creative use of type, page layout, book design and visualising data. In 2014, I wrote a book entitled "An introduction to Information Design" for Laurence King Publishing in the UK with my colleague Kathryn Coates. The book provides an insight into the variety of forms information design takes and uses international case studies from renowned designers to illustrate the subject.In 2006 I completed the book "The Complete Guide to Digital Type" also published by Laurence King in the UK. This was specifically aimed at students and young designers. Its purpose was to inform about all aspects of digital typography. This included everything from using and managing type to constructing your own fonts.

Senior Lecturer In Graphic Design
I started here in April 2008 and spent over nine years as part of a team of ten staff teaching on the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Graphic Design. I was module and year leader for third year (level 6), responsible for organising and coordinating the final year programme. This included writing projects, liaising with industry to give students.

I worked here primarily as level 1 tutor co-ordinating the first year programme for students. I also taught across levels two and three specialising in information design and typography. Our students won many competitions including RSA, D&AD, YCN and ISTD and went on to work for prestigious studios such as Pentagram, Why Not Associates and Mind Design.

I taught here for 5 years, across all levels of the course. I was invloved in re-validating the undergraduate program and began the process of constructing pathways in Illustration and publication design.
