This is a unique role in the civil service where I am a Customer Relationship Manager and the Trade Sector Adviser for the Automotive Sector , which is car, motorcycle, commercial vehicles, motor sport, auction houses, components & metal recycling. I provide knowledge from a commercial operation perspective plus the offer of in-depth explanations to colleagues working in any of the tax regimes within HMRC and other Government departments . This is for the wholesale and retail. manufacturing ,plus import and export areas of the sector . Understanding and explaining vehicle systems along with the provision of technical support and interpretation to assure Research & Development claims. I work with HMRC Policy when amendments are being considered or current policy is being challenged. I attend tribunal and criminal cases as a competent professional as well as liaise with individual businesses and trade bodies for the sector.

Midlands

The role varied across the time I was there but in the main it meant the day-to-day management of around twenty franchised car dealerships in the West Midlands , supporting the dealers and maximising their opportunities along with those for the Brand. This was for new and used car sales, wholesaling new and used cars plus support with after-sales. The role would also include prospecting for new dealers, preparing the viability study and making the appointments along with managing the termination of any existing contracts when necessary.

Redditch , Llandudno, Stoke-On-Trent

I joined as technician in Stoke-on-Trent at the 16th centre to be opened. soon promoted to service manager and moved to a new store in LLandudno . I then transferred over to retail and managed the Llandudno high street store. Promoted and moved to Head Office in Redditch as Technical Trainer on cycles, car systems, alarms, wheels and tyres. I would write and deliver the course which included a test paper. My final position here was to calculate and recommend the prices to be set in the services centres, based on national research and experience. Two of us introduced variable price points across the UK to maximise the margin without effecting volumes in both the service centres and the retail stores.
